摘要:naturehasprovideduswitharangeofreactivenanoscaleplatforms,intheformofproteincagearchitecturessuchasviralcapsidsandthecagesofferritin-likeproteins.proteincagearchitectureshaveclearlydemarcatedexterior,interior,andinterfacesurfacesconsistingofpreciselylocatedchemicalfunctionalities.inthepresentwork,wedemonstratethatthesmallheatshockprotein(mjhsp)cagefrommethanococcusjannaschiiisanewandversatilenanoscaleplatformwhoseexteriorandinteriorsurfacesareamenabletobothgeneticandchemicalmodification.wildtypeandgeneticmutantsofthehspcageareshowntoreactwithactivatedfluoresceinmoleculesinasitespecificmanner.inaddition,the12nmhspcageservesasasizeconstrainedreactionvesselfortheoxidativemineralizationofiron,resultingintheformationofmonodispersed9nmironoxidenanoparticles.theseresultsdemonstratetheutilityofthehspcagetoserveasananoscaleplatformforthesynthesisofbothsoft(organic)andhard(inorganic)materials.
