邻苯二甲酸盐是邻苯二甲酸酐与醇的反应产物，邻苯二甲酸酯类已经被研究得非常透切，生物毒性方面，研究结果表明老鼠在*的暴露下有影响，在高剂量的情况下更为明显，而人体的在这方面没有老鼠那么敏感。低分子量的邻苯二甲酸酯类多用于醋酸纤维素的增塑剂，另外还有作为溶剂的作用；过渡分子量的一般用于聚乙酸乙烯酯，并用于纤维素硝酸酯中；高分子量的，用于pvc作增塑剂。邻苯二甲酸酯类在非塑料中的应用：聚乙酸乙烯酯基的胶粘剂，油基染料,杀虫剂和防泡剂的溶剂，硝基漆等涂料工业，指甲油的添加剂，所以邻苯二甲酸二丁酯可发现于纸及纸板产品中，它可来源于印刷油墨,胶粘剂等。
